WHAT IS CRESMET

CRESMET is a research center that produces new knowledge to improve the education available to all students in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Interdisciplinary research teams on our funded projects include faculty mathematicians, scientists, engineers and educators. These teams develop, test, refine, and share products that support better instruction in the STEM disciplines:
  • Theories and models of teaching, learning and professional development
  • Peer-reviewed research papers
  • Curriculum and instructional modules
  • Assessment tools
  • Tools for teacher professional learning communities
  • Tools for counseling in STEM disciplines
  • Resources for policymakers and information for the general public

Our focus spans classrooms from K-12 through graduate studies. CRESMET’s vision is for Arizona to lead the nation and the United States to lead the world in providing all students with an intellectually exciting, mind-building education in math and science—the kind of deep understanding that develops the critical thinking and problem-solving citizens must have to compete in a 21st century global economy.

Our mission is to engage in research that creates new knowledge and tools that improve the quality of STEM teaching and learning in real-world classrooms.

Our center’s facilities and staff are jointly supported by ASU’s Office of the Provost, Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education (COE), the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS).

Competitive grant awards from agencies such as the National Science Foundation fund our research projects. Business and industry also contribute to CRESMET’s work, recognizing the link between STEM education and economic competitiveness. The center provides a well-equipped physical space with a full-time staff, as well as a stimulating intellectual commons.

We provide outstanding opportunities for graduate students in the fields of mathematics and science education to work with leading scholars on ground-breaking research Information for prospective graduate students.
