ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS

These tools have emerged from research projects conducted at CRESMET since the 1990s. The tools have undergone repeated cycles of testing and refinement with populations of high school students and teachers, undergraduate students and faculty.

To obtain and use a copy of any of the assessment instruments featured here, please complete and submit CRESMET’s Assessment Instrument Request. Some of the tools, such as the PCA, require that users pay a service fee.

  • Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) The Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) is an observational instrument that can be used to asses the degree to which mathematics or science instruction is "reformed".   • Views About Science Survey (VASS) This is an instrument for assessing student views about knowing and learning science. VASS was developed in a contrasting alternative rating scale format (CArs) by Ibrahim Halloun, formerly a research professor at CRESMET, in collaboration with a number of researchers at ASU and other institutions.
