National Association of
Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS)
What is NAGPS? NAGPS is a non-profit educational advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. that represents approximately 900,000 students across 200 campuses. Our mission is to actively promote the interests and welfare of graduate and professional-degree-seeking students in public and private universities, as well as in the public and private agencies at the local, state, and national levels. In addition, through its national office and regional networks, NAGPS acts as a clearinghouse for information on graduate and professional student groups at all stages of development. Our board is composed of 14 members including: five executive officers, 4 standing committee chairs, and 5 regional coordinators. For names and contact information visit http://www.nagps.org/board/bod.html. NAGPS offers four membership categories including: individual (for students), organizational (for graduate student organizations), affiliate (for graduate schools), and society (for professional or disciplinary societies) memberships. Organizational members are our largest category and represents approximately 900,000 graduate and professionals students across the U.S. All members are categorized into one of our five regions including: the west, south central, midwest, southeast, and northeast. For more information on a region, visit http://www.nagps.org/. NAGPS has four standing committees that handle issues related to specific areas of concern including: International Students, Human Diversity, Employment Concerns, and Legislative Concerns. For more information on our standing committees, visit http://www.nagps.org/committees/index.html. The NAGPS Board of Directors meets three times each year in person. These meetings include the national conference held each fall and our biannual Lobby Days held in February and June of each year. Between in-person meetings, the board holds electronic meetings each month. During the spring, each region also holds a local conference.
