SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM OFFICER
Science Foundation Arizona is seeking applications from early career individuals within 4-6 years of having achieved their highest advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in engineering, computer science, applied physics/mathematics. Of special benefit will be experience in sustainable systems, renewable resources, and alternative energies, information and communications technologies, and engineering design at the nanoscale of length. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working with a wide range of science and engineering R&D professionals in academic, industrial and government laboratories. The ability to understand, clearly state, critically analyze, write about and recommend the works of others is an important feature of the position.
The incumbent will be joining a small staff of highly dedicated individuals in building a new model for funding use-inspired research at the state level with national and global implications for the future of science and engineering research and education. The State of Arizona is uniquely positioned to test that model with three research universities, a range of high tech industries, and a population growing faster than any other in the nation and with special environmental, health, employment, and educational needs that are highly dependent on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Now in its second year of operation, SFAz was created as a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit foundation and is a unique public/private partnership. In its first year, investments in research totaled more than $25M.
