ASU Plans to Innovate in Public School Models

Plans are on the ASU drawing board to establish four K-12 University Public Schools, known as centers of education innovation, on or near each of the university’s four campuses located around the Phoenix metropolitan region. The schools will operate in partnership with communities and local school districts and aim to develop models and tools that schools statewide can adopt and adapt for their own students.

The first school will be located at ASU Polytechnic campus in Mesa. The Polytechnic Center of Education Innovation will feature an individualized education plan for each student and a curriculum emphasizing global awareness, technology in the classroom, character education and rigorous math and science.

The curriculum teams led by Dr. Vasquez and Ms. Ramirez are working with Arizona learning standards to identify the major ideas students will learn in mathematics and science, recommending curriculum programs and technology supports and providing research to define a program of professional development for the school’s teachers.
